If anyone in the State of IL recieved tax bills for internet cigarette purchases which included interest and panalties, you can apply for a refund IF you paid within 30 days of receiving the bill. Go to www.revenue.state.il.us and dowload the form you need to apply for a refund. You will need copies of your documents showing what you were billed and what you paid. Apparently in 2005 the state (in all its goodness) decided it shouldn't penalize people who paid their bills within the 30 day time period. There is an article in the Chicago Tribune today about this.

Good luck!

I know no one else posted on this topic, but I wanted to let you know that I received a letter yesterday from the Appeal Board granting me a refund of the late filing fees, late payment fees and all interest. So basically, what I ended up paying was the difference between the two states' taxes. But the cigarettes were still cheaper where I bought them than IL. While I do HATE the high taxes and all the restrictions, at least I feel a bit better about this affiar.

Yes, I did. I mailed the payment on the 29th day each time. I hadn't applied for the "late filing fee" to be refunded because I figured I did file late. But, they added it to my claim! I mailed the form on March 1, and got the letter saying I'd won yesterday, March 29. Didn't take them all that long either.

Hope this helps
