Imagine my surprise recently when I found out that the States Attorney General here in Washington State went to court to get my records of on line cigarette purchases I have made over the last few years. I really felt I was protected from this kind of intrusion! Obviously not. For the last few weeks I've been trying to find out if I have any legal recourse, but haven't found much so far. Maybe I should look into discrimination? Why are we singled out? People order all kinds of goods off of the internet and are not charged tax...more over, catalog sales have been going on for years without charging taxes. Beware...this is only the beginning. When the states figure out that they can get away with this, everything purchased on the internet will get taxed. Would like to here from others on this. Am very interested if there are any other Washington State residents who can give me more info.

You probably ordered from a shop here in the US, probably out of Kentucky, North Carolina or Virginia. In VA the cigarette tax is 2 1/2 cants, per pack, in KY, 5 cents a pack. In Your state it's $1.425/pack. They can go back and charge you that $1.425/pack + your state's 6.5% sales tax. Unfortunately, the tobacco shops have to turn over that information. There is good news though, just order your cigarettes from overseas companies or the Seneca Indians in New York State, and they can't charge you tax. There's good links in the link section of this site. If you can plan your cigarette consumption in advance, order from the Swiss smokes, such as yessmoke. If you need them within a week, order from seneca. I myself learned to make my own filter cigarettes. Once I found my perfect blend, I love them more than any other cigarettes. That's all I smoke now. That tobacco is not taxed in the Cigarette class. It is bulk tobacco, so that's the cheapest way to go. Browse the forums on this site. You can learn a lot of useful things.

I agree Tom. Rolling your own is by far the best way to go. Just started 10 days ago and am smoking premium smokes for about $1.30 a day! Little effort and there is just no way to explain how good a fresh cigarette tastes.
