I just received a notice saying I ow 127.82 (105.15, tax due, 5.26 penalty, 18.41 interest). It may have something to do with the 6% sales tax on actual purchase vs estimated? I'm not sure, it gives no reason, other than a due date and how to appeal.
Just a heads up, I'm going to call Monday in case it was my error, but 9 months after payment is ridiculous. |

People, start checking your state income tax returns. They are now adding lines for self declaration for internet purchases. Tobacco was their first target. They are also going after home shopping purchases. The nanny state claims poeple are not responsible to make their own decisions on SHS but you are suppose to be adult enough to declare your taxes. Go figure!  |

| I am so pissed off, they basically blew off the 6% admustment for actual paid price per carton. I submitted, copies of the receipts, and bank account statements circling the esmokes purchases. for the 2 or 3 receipts i was missing. I should know better than to check my mail on a Saturday and stay pissed off for the weekend. |

You got off easy - another NJ resident posting on another board this week got nailed for 10,000 dollars for purchasing from e-smokes.
I don't necessarily blame e-smokes, they probably thought they could get around the law - all internet companies think so...and they do disclaim - I believe- that you should report your own purchases to your state.
What nemo31 states is correct too - I think that will be the next wave - the states going after all internet purchases. I know Maine was proposing such a tax-law measure. |

Yeah aon that aspect I did, but this is repercussions from the bill I paid in April, with copies of receipts along with the state tax adjusted check. They are just informing me 9 months later. This should have been done when they first received the check.
Luckily all of my online orders have been NJ taxed, thru Barnes & Noble, Newegg and Compusa and a few others, so I don't think they are getting anything there, but I will be saving all of my email receipts for online puchases just in case. ON the bright side of the state tax line, maybe some of these nonsmoking assholes that thought it was funny will get nailed this time. |
