Cigarette companies are under attack merely for the product they produce, which is cigarettes. This is unfair.

Of course, I would think that. So would every member of this club. We are smokers afterall. But I do have one problem with them.

We (at least Marlboro and Winston smokers) have all seen the ads which promise coupons and prizes for those who sign up. Coupons are an especially good inducement to signup and everyone of us can use a little break on the price of our smokes. Without such a reward, there is no good reason to take even one minute to call them and register.

Smokers, I've noticed, tend to be brand loyal. I certainly have been (Marlboro age 15 to 35, Winston age about 35 to 45, and both Winston and Marlboro from 45 to now 53). It is my loyalty to my favorite brands that is the foundation of my problem.

I called the companies and asked if they did send coupons to those who sign up and was assured that they did. Well, several weeks went by without seeing any discount coupons, so I called up and asked them to send me some. I was told the signup just makes you eligible or that the coupons would be on the pack or in the carton. I've never seen any coupons that have ever come with my smokes and I've been smoking cigarettes for almost 40 years.

OK - so its like a contest. Fine.

The problem is this: on my pack of Marlboros there is an insert which says tha if you sign up you could "join the millions of Marlboro smokers who have received valuable coupons". Well, I'm one of those millions of Marlboro cigarette smokers and called them and told them so. They did send me two coupons ($3 off a carton) after telling them that when I bought a carton of Marlboros the clerk gave me a coupon for $3 off a carton of Winstons. As to Winston, I did get a key chain for signing up two of my friends that smoke...but no coupons.

I have heard others say that they never received anything for signing up and I wonder if any of you have had the same experience.

I wonder if this is a legitimate concern or if I am making a big deal out of nothing. I suppose it does not matter: I'm not going to quit smoking or change brands because of it. It is just that I, like every member of the this club, is a dedicated cigarette smoker and I think we deserve a tangible sign of their appreciation.

Maybe this club could get the companies to give out some coupons to the members.

And by the way, don't put stop smoking inserts on my smokes. If I wanted to quit smoking, why would I have a pack of cigarettes.

I have just received (3) $5.00/ctn off coupons for Marlboro in mail. Last month I received a personal ash tray from Marlboro. They do not send coupons on a regular basis, but they do send them and other promotional material.

I don't know. On Marlboro, there is an insert on the pack. With Winston, its inside the carton.

Call 1-800-MARLBORO and the number on my pack of Winstons is 1-800-862-2226.

Here, in Tennessee, at the store where I get my smokes, when you by a carton of Marlboro, they print out a ticket for $3.00 of a carton of Winston. I told them that at Marlboro. I told them I've been smoking Marlboros since I was 15 and I never got anything in the carton or on the pack. I'll send you a private message, if I can figure out how that works.

I hate to break the news to you but the truth is all of you brand loyal smokers are NOT GOING TO GET ANY COUPONS. Think about it...why would they discount their product to you? They know you are gonna buy the brand you smoke.
The cig co's are trying to influence the kids who DONT have brand loyalty. thats their target mrkt...not you who have been smoking their brand for years. THey ALREADY HAVE YOU...why would they spend more money on you. Your NOT GOING ANYWHERE.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but in case you havent checked stock prices lately, the fact that you are not getting any coupons for being loyal sure ain't hurting their bottom line.
Smoke em if you got em...it'll be dark soon.
