I've this year switched from factory smokes, and I've been handrolling for about four months now- but the potency started getting to me, and I started buying packs again.

This week, I went out on a limb and purchased a MYO kit from D&R, with satisfactory results, but I'm looking to more closely replicate the style and flavor of my old brand, Camel wides. I don't know its dimensions, so I'm not sure what tubes to get to achieve the width I'm looking for, and with all the varieties of packaged loose tobacco, I could spend hundreds trying to get the blend of smooth flavor, with that good bite I'm accustomed to.

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for similar tubes, and tobaccos to purchase/blend to emulate or surpass my old favorite.

Thanks!
James.

I MYO also - they do take awhile to get used to.
And I pack them too heavy and get 15 minute cigarettes...

As for the tubes to emulate the Camel Wides - check ryomagazine.com, they may have options there - or e-mail D&R - Dan will respond to e-mails, I've e-mailed him a couple of times. He also may have ideas how to duplicate Camel Wides taste closer with the real tobaccos they sell.

Another site to try

http://syo.dalrun.com/

Just an idea ---- have you tried the sample packs? they are cheap enough to try the many blends and if you don't care for them you can mix them into your regular tobacco (to keep from tossing whats left Wink )

Once you find your mix you'll throw rocks at the store bought

I have a question about D&R's customer service.

I ordered a MYO starter kit and they only sent a small part of the order. I emailed them and suggested they overnight the missing items. They sent them UPS Ground instead.

Is this standard treatment of new customers? If so, I need an alternate source.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,

I can't help with D&R but I can with the other sources.

http://www.pipesandcigars.com/ East coast and very consumer oriented.

http://www.lilbrown.com/ West coast --- good people

I haven't had much luck finding an outfit in the middle that gives good service.
If anyone has had good luck with one let me know -- it would cut three or four days off the shipping.

I'll check those links out.

I'm a little north of the Dallas,TX area, so something away from either coast would be quicker/cheaper shipping.

Thanks for your help!

Stevesimmons - I've had no problem at all with D&R. They even added an extra carton of tubes [different type] to try out, on my first order.

I've always had great customer service - you probably just ran into an oops in the system. It happens to the best of companies once in a while.
Sorry you had a bad experience. They are a good outfit.

The rest of the package was delivered today and works perfectly.

I'm not happy it took nearly two weeks to get everything, and that they didn't think it was necessary to ship the missing items overnight. But I will likely give them another chance.
