I've given up on premier supermatics. I bought 3, yes 3, and they all broke on me. I looked up all of the maintenance information and tried to fix them. I almost gave up on myo.
Then I tried a topomatic. Almost the same as the supermatic, but somehow tweaked and made better. (Keeping fingers crossed) I've had the topomatic for a month now, and it's still as good as the day I got it.
Just my opinion  .

Pam,
I too have bought three (two for gifts) and all three sucked when it came to quality control. Over the last year and a half I've tweaked the machinces and my M.O. to where they are very liveable.
The two biggest improvements came with drilling the cutter out and losing the return spring on the packer. I bought enough spare parts to rebuild two of the units and it has kept things "rollin" without a problem.
I thought of buying the top-o-matic but I'm waiting to see if they bring out an electric that is reasonable.
A point to ponder ----
UPS had a screw-up last week on a tobacco shipment so I bought a pack of premade to get by. (First one in almost two years) If I had to smoke the harsh crap that came out of that pack on a regular basis then I would quit. Once ya get used to the best ya can forget the rest

I tried both tweaking and repairing--no luck. I'm not stupid when it comes to mechanical stuff, I can manage basics. But I was spending as much time repairing these things as I was using them.
I told my local tobacco shop how good they were, and it sounds like they may order them. Mine is still going strong . I clean out any tobacco about once a week, and then re-lube it with 3 in 1 oil. Works great.

| Interestingly enough, my next-door neighbor had just the opposite experience; his TOM began failing after about two months. His Supermatic has been going strong for over six months now. |

and being seasoned as he his, he doesn't even care to tell you how long he's been using his.....maybe he's seeing if SYO/MYO/IJO, even has the capacity here...no offense intended by myself, I just find the more common forums to be not of my forte/intrerest....(my)ADD

| I like the Premier supermatic. I hear good things about the top-o-matic though. I had my premier supermatic for a good 3 years. If you look up my old posts, you can see exactly how long. It has been great to me the whole time; however, the Canadian company that made them for years sold out to another company. Maybe the newer company sucks. It's just a thought, because I can't picture my premier supermatic going down for anything. The price has been cut to $40 from $50 when I bought mine years ago, so maybe they're cutting quality to cut price. Just a thought. |

| I only bought 1 supermatic by the way. Before I had that I used the Privlig. It's like the Excel. That handle broke in a few months, but it was fast while it worked. There were just more parts to it. Before that I used the hand injector. Anyway, I bought ONE Premier Supermatic. It still works great. If anyone has a newer one that's not working, let's get together and compare them sometime. I bet they are cutting back on something. |

Nope! RBA bought them out and if anything we will see things we eagle-eyes have been looking for....the parts department is called ARBRO, and if you have a Canadian made model, whose serial numbers start with a "B", then you can destroy the Topomatics by grabbing the new plastic ACETAL cutter (more correctly, compressor)
just ask Slap MaXWELL...(and I am not here to throw away Chinese baby-toys, simply tell it like it is)
