| I have been looking at all the smoker's boards and i came across this one board that had non-smoker's opinions and they were really harsh about how they think of smoker's. I would like to tell all the non-smoker's I pay my taxes, I obey the law's, I am a quiet neighbor, I am nice to everyone i meet, but because i smoke you think that i am a bad person. Some of things you (nonsmokers) say about smokers are just cruel and unjust. I will admit that ciggs are nasty habit but they are my habit. I could be a acloholic that seems to be more accepted then smoking now days (as long as i don't drive). But the truth is almost everyone i know has a vice whether it be smoking or drinking, they are both bad habits, So who gave you non-smokers the right to be judgemental? |

| A great post for your first one, pal. Yep, smokers are the people who fix your car, install your dish or cable, wait on your tables, check you out in a retail store, fight the fires in your area, etc; ad infinitum. Even some that work in hospitals/health care. I said before, we need a national campaign called "Smokers Are People Too". |

Quote: they are both bad habits
I used to think my habits were "bad" too until I started doing my own informal but probably more scientifically-valid-than-the-anti-bullshit surveys...
It's 10 to 1 of my peers...smokers miss less work, have less health "issues," take fewer prescription drugs, whine less, have more fun, stay up later, and have healthier kids...so there you have it folks:
smoking is GOOD for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we smokers also patronize bars and restaraunts at a greater frequency...
The non smokers were the ones calling me up 15 years ago to take care of their kids while they were off refilling their Ritalin/Paxil/pink gooey spoon-to-their-kids weekly Amoxicillan prescriptions, shopping at "fresh fields," and getting dutiful mammograms (THREE of them are dead now)...
while i was at the city park swinging one (smoke in the other) handed from the monkey bars in playful glee with children that grew up to respect me and HATE (their word not mine) their parents...my own daughter grew up missing less school, on the dean's list more often, and proud that she has a home that warmly welcomes her now-adult friends...vices and all...
Is there hope for the future? Many of these young folks don't think they have one...my advice to them: don't go down without a fight...
I pray they heed... |

Bad is relative. What is bad? Who defines bad? What do you mean by Vice? Morality changes everyday. Vice is supposedly nothing other than the opposite of virtue. The most destructive vice, from the Christian point of view, is Pride. So, you smoke. Somebody thinking that they have a right to decide for you, that they have so much pride in themselves to know what is best for you, is from a Godly aspect, the worst vice of all. (And I won't even mention "cruel and unjust") So don't feel ashamed. Everyone who harps at you and makes you feel "nasty" is wallowing in their own sins and are too full of pride to admit it. Every non-smoker that says a damn thing against you should get down on their knees and pray that their arrogance is forgiven. It is a good thing smokers are more tolernant. We forgive the anti-smoker for being such loud, mouth whinning people. If it wasn't for cigarettes, we'd freak out and break their annoying necks. Cigarettes make us virtuous. |

I can see you need some de-programming. You've come to the right place.
This attitude on the part of many, if not most, smokers is partially why we're in the predicament we're in. The antis have saturated the media with this message and smokers feel they have to be apologetic for their "Nasty Habit"
BULLSHIT!
Ask yourself what makes it "nasty". It wasn't considered "nasty" 30 years ago. What's changed?
What's changed is that we've been bullied by a well funded and well organized nanny cartel that have brilliantly parlayed this into a very profitable crusade.
QUIT APOLOGIZING for personal behavior that harms nobody. It is a huge part of the scheme in their quest for money and control. |
