I was so psyched to get my new Supermatic and supplies today. I started stuffing right away.Of course I expected the first few to be bad. Now after stuffing a few packs of cigarettes I'm beginning to think this is hopeless. I can't get a fully packed cig that the remaining tobacco on it doesn't just fall out it not held upright even after tapping down.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.......

So I do some more research on the web and find out that the Supermatic often needs to be adjusted properly before it will work right. There are no
directions on adjusting the unit in the owners manual.

Can someone please respond with what I have to adjust to get this thing working properly, OR should I return the unit and get a Topomatic
which I've read is better made and has fewer problems?

While I write this I'm fuming looking at a burn hole in my new carpet from the head falling of my
MYO cig.......I know I know I'm the idiot that smoked a new untried cigarette from a MYO
machine in a room with a new carpet.....DUMB....just DUMB.... is how I feel right now....... Embarassed

I'm not an expert. We just got the Supermatic a few days ago and have made a few packs worth so far. I love it! We haven't tried the Topomatic.

Are you understuffing? It warns you not to overstuff, so make sure you aren't understuffing as a result.

Do you have it on the correct setting? It's adjustable for regulars, kings, and 100s.

Sorry if these don't help. I know nothing about how to adjust it other than for length.

I meant to add a suggestion about the carpet.

If the burnt spot isn't very big, cut out the fibers that are burnt. Do you have a scrap piece of the carpet or matching carpet in the floor of a closet? If not, then you can do this around the perimeter of the room and/or where furniture sits. Cut out a fiber here and there, enough to fill the spot. Then superglue them into the burnt spot.

I haven't done this, but a friend did. Hope it helps.

I'll try your trick on the carpet. The closet is carpeted too so I can get fibers there. Thanks

Wife's going to kill me if she sees it Sad I guess I'll have to tell her. We have a very honest relationship.....Not looking forward to telling her.

I overstuffed a few times and jammed the machine. I cleared it with a pencil so as not to mark or mar the metal ram or chamber. I watched the Supermatic help video on RYO magazines web site for tips. I filled the sides first. Then filled the center making sure not to pack it in the chamber. But, I was never able to get a cigarette that was loaded to the tip, or close to the tip. And even after tapping down the cigarette loose tobacco falls out of it.

Do you think maybe the tobacco is cut to fine? It does seem awful chafey and fine. Maybe I should try a different brand of tobacco. I'm using the Smokers Outlet house brands. What brand have you had good luck with?

Didn't there used to be a help guide posted in this forum for the Supermatic? I tried the link in one of the other threads, but it says it was taken down because of corrupt pictures.

I'm buying from a local shop where we get our premades. I've only used Stokers brand in the Supermatic so far. I have a small pouch of Top that came in a kit with a small stuffer. I bought the Top kit just to try loose tobacco and rolling our own before investing in the bigger machine. I haven't tried the Top tobacco in the Supermatic yet.

Stokers is a combination of larger shreds and crumbs. I put a handful in a bowl while stuffing. The crumbs fall to the bottom of the bowl while I stuff with the larger shreds. I've stuffed with just the crumbs that are left in the bowl, though, and haven't yet had a problem like you're describing. Trying a different brand might help. If it still messes up, then you know it's the machine and not the tobacco.

I only stumbled onto this forum a few weeks ago. Here in Tennessee, cigarette taxes aren't as astronomical as other places...yet. A carton of off-brands is under $20. Still, I'd rather NONE of my taxes go the MSA, so I started looking into rolling my own. Anyway, I never saw the help guide, but I did see the post where the pictures in the help guide were corrupt and taken down. So I can't help you there. Maybe someone else can!

Maybe with a way to fix your carpet, your wife won't be too mad. Good luck!

If tobacco is falling out of the cigarette then it is probably too dry or you you are under stuffing. Look at http://ryomagazine.com in the Multi-Media section. On the left select Tobacco Characteristics and watch the Tobacco Moisture Content. The video has a lot of good tips on the proper moisture content of tobacco for stuffing. Also, check out http://syo.dalrun.com. This site has a lot of information on the Premier Supermatic, it's use and maintenace.

Good Luck!!

You guys are great, and this forum is so helpful.

I was trying to use all the tobacco including the dust. The dust was causing my problems with tobacco falling out. I also wasn't stuffing into the corners well. Now that I'm taking your suggestions: using a bowl to let the dust settle to the bottom where it can be discarded after using the good stuff, Watching the videos on RYO Magazine, and letting the tobacco dry a half an hour or so. Now I'm spiting out almost perfect butts pretty consistently. Thanks.

The wife was cool about the carpet. That's why I love her she's always pleasantly surprising me.

I just got my TopOMatic yesterday. I just wanted to say it is fantastic. First cigarette was packed a bit too full, second and third a bit too loose and now I am home free! I was telling my husband last night that they were just like smoking Marlboro's. I am using my old buglar tobacco from my roll your owns and it is working just fine. A #! machine and thumbs up! Recommend buying this machine.

Thanks,
