Hi all,
I decided to try rolling my own cigarettes and went to my local tobacco shop last night. I got the Premier Excel machine, the Zig Zag light 100 tubes and the stores own blend of tobaccos. I'm trying mixing their ultra light menthol and their light regular.
I've been smoking Salem Ultra Light 100s. I've found Basic Ultra Light 100s to be nearly identical and cheaper.
The problem with their store mix is that it seems harsh and burns my throat. Buying from a local shop would be my preference since the states are up in arms now about online tobacco sales.
Any suggestions as to mixes/brands of tobacco to try? Also, any online resources to learn about different types of tobacco and their characteristic/flavor would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

What do you have available locally to choose from as far as menthols go?
I've tried the Premier menthol tubes with Gambler light tobacoo and I would say the have a strong menthol base like I would think the salems have.
I smoke a menthol as well but don't like it to be as strong as a Salem.
Locally my choices are few.

Hi Rudy,
I did try the Premier menthol, but if I remember correctly, the filter was too -- maybe flimsy is the word--to easy to draw in the smoke I guess. I went to a different store because the first store only sold their own brand and Gambler brand tobacco.
This second store had Zen menthol tubes. I think I hit on a good combo with these tubes and the Zig Zag menthol tobacco. I'm packing the cigarettes pretty tightly, and I'm finding a smoke lasts a good 15-20 minutes. No harshness either--a good menthol and tobacco taste. I also find I'm smoking about half of what I was smoking. I may try a couple of other brands of tobacco too.
I'm still a bit slow making the cigarettes. It took me about 35 minutes to make 20 cigarettes. I'm sure it will get faster as I go. Thanks!

Pam,
I've tried the Premier menthols as well, to much menthol for me, I find that a menthol tobacco and a regular tube is working for me.
I've also tried the Zen and they are a much better tube than the Premier, IMO.
Are you located near Danbury or Gaylordsville in CT.? There are a few chain stores called Buttheads in Ct that have a good mix of tubes and tobacco sometimes I'll take the ride when I can't wait for stuff to come "online".
Glad you found a mix of tube and tobacco you like, I'm no speed demon either, when it come to making smokes.
