Hi,
I am new here and this looks like a pretty solid resource.
I smoke marlboro menthol lights and I am looking for a good brand that is similar to MML's
I am going to start making my own for a few reasons. Im tired of having to run to the store for a pack all of the time and im tired of paying rediculous prices. They are only about $3 a pack here in ohio, but it adds up. |

First let me say welcome.
I've been looking for a "KOOL" clone for my kid brother but so far ---no luck.
The only suggestion I'd have is to try a few of the sample pouches til you find one compatible.
When I first started MYO I tried to match what I was smoking, but found by trying different tobaccos and blends I came up with a much better smoke than you can buy at the store. Now I smoke about half as many as I did with the premades.
If any of you menthol smokers come up with a recipe close to Kool let me know. I'd like to see the brother get into the MYO.

I'm a menthol person too usually Marlboro menthol lights or milds.
Here's what I've tried so far.
Your have some choices:
use menthol tubes with a light regular menthol tobacco(ELrey menthol tubes and McClintock light)
use methol light tobacco with a regular filter or a regular light filter if you like them really light. (Elrey regular or light tubes with a good brand of menthol light tobacco). I found McClintock menthol to be to strong for me in a regular tube but never tried it in a light tube.
I've been using a menthol light tobacco from Smokers Outlet or Stuff Your Own with a regular Elrey tube.

Smokin Joes brand matches Marlboro almost exactly. It is sold in a can that makes around around 200 cigarettes. I think it also comes in Light, Canadian and Menthol blends. If you have any trouble finding it, we could get it for you or you could try any smoke shop that specializes in Native American tobacco products. We sell it for $7.50 a can, but it is a specialty item, so you'd have to call first. |

OK I have tried McClintock Menthol with Gambler light tubes
This seems to be pretty good for me.
The only thing i dont like is the gambler tubes. I can never seem to get them packed the right way. THe tobacco seems to fall out at the tip a bit sometimes and it feels loose in my finger. When I pack it with more, i can barely smoke it because i cant pull enough air through. |

Prophet,
I'll take the smoke that's packed to tight and roll it between my index finger and thumb until it it loosens up.
The only problem I've had with fall out is using to much shake (the powder in the bottom of the bag) in the mix.
McClintock is a shag type tobacco so there shouldn't be to many problems if you use the strands and and not the scrubs on the business end of the smoke
I use the McClintock tubes (and buy them by the case) I have no complaints with them. I tried the Gambler tubes and found that they had a problem with uniformity.
Trial and error goes with the finding the "PERFECT" smoke, everybody has to find the mix that works for them. Hang in there and it will get better with practice.

Just a point I've found that after I pack tube with a few taps on the filter end I also roll the open end by twisting it against the side of the tray I use to roll on, seems to keep the cigs from loosing tobacco at the end.

Ok so I have been trying to find something similar for a while now and its a no go. I find McClintock menthol with regular tubes come the closest. the light tubs make the smoke too light and the regular seem to give you the best drag.
Im still inerested in trying smokin Joes as well though.
hope this helps. |
