A phone call to Lowes reveals they are going to stop customers along with their employees from smoking in the parking lot . exactly when they were going to go after the customers is unclear. I may have to go and watch what customers do when the "tobacco nazis" start on the customers . of course being a smoker I will have to park somewhere else too see all the fun.Wouldnt you hate being the employee that gets that job All smokers who are concerned that this is just the first step of things worse to come, and to all you non-smokers who are afraid of who companies will go after next you need to call the Lowes headquaters phone number 1-800-44LOWES

I am being fired monday at lowes of muskegon Michigan for openly opposing their no smoking policy. as i see it this is the first step in taking away americans rights. Being from a jewish family or should i say a jewish cant find any family I am extreamy sensesitive to discrimination. This is how it began in germany little right taken here little right taken there. Where will it stop? It won't as millions of dead jews can tell you.

For more info on the Lowe's no-smoking policy (which includes no smoking in their parking lot and no smoking outside on their property ANYWHERE), check out this thread on my smokingpermitted.com board.
The wife in the linked thread mentioned her hubby (he's a contractor with Lowe's) tore up ALL of his cards assosciated with Lowe's and said he'll do his business with the Home Depot from now on.
Here's the linked thread.

I just did my part, here's what I e-mailed them:
I recently heard news of your new totalitarian no smoking policy on Lowes property. I usually spend on average $5000/month at your stores. Seeing how this is still AMERICA and I have the right to choose which store I patronize, I will no longer be patronizing your stores. I feel the smoking restrictions have gone too far. If I were to implement such a stupid policy, I would have no employees and would essentially have to shut down (do you know HOW many people in construction smoke - or use tobacco products of some sort?).
It's one thing to not be able to smoke in a store, that I understand, but when smokers can't even go outside that borders on ridiculous..... what is the reasoning here - that we are the one's depleting the ozone layer? I think not.
My business is going to the Home Depot from now on, because they recognize that we are AMERICAN'S and can choose which stores we want to patronize. Lowe's has lost my business because of their facist no smoking anywhere policy.
Hopefully they will take heed of this and revise their policies. |

If your being fired for saying your peace then get a lawyer, you might before they throw you out mention the national retailers union too some of the employees who feel the way you do, or you do it theres nothing lowes can do -contact them and tell them whats going on they can contact your store without mentioing your name and let them know its been requested that they come to an employee meeting I say if the SH*T is hitting the fan, you be the one throwing most of it. Good luck to you Toni keep us informed we will keep our fingers ( the ones not holding our tobacco) crossed for you Sheryl

Unfortunately for me I work at Lowes in NC. I haven't been fired yet but I am looking for another job due to this no smoking policy. Our store hasn't cut out smoking for the customers just it's employees while on the clock. Our's is one of the few stores that still allows smoking in the parking lot for the customers but that is because our store manager doesn't want to lose his bonus at the end of the year not because he disagrees with the policy. He just bends it to suit himself. It's bad enough for those of us who can clock out and leave the store on lunch to smoke but those who do night stocking can't even do that they are locked in at night. There has to be some legal action against that somewhere. I have a friend on night stocking that is looking into it I'll let yall know when he finds something out. In the meantime even though I'm forced to work at lowes till I get hired on somewhere else I'll not be doing my shopping there.
