Hey Guys
Non-smoker here. and never HAVE smoked. Ran across a couple smoking rights sites and some are humorous, some desprate and a lot are plain outlandish. This one is pretty god althoug a few want to compare non-smokers to nazis.. LOL
For the most part, I would say that non-smokers really dont give a hoot if someone smokes or not, as long as they do it where I or they dont have to. Here in Florida, we now have statewide non-smoking in eating establishments and I will say that I like it. I KNOW its not for everyone. I am also aware that the people of our state voted for it, ergo, it passed.
If businesses suffer ( which btw they have NOT in this area) then the only ones to blame are the loyal clients who in reality are NOT loyal.
I dont believe in banning ciggs, or overtaxing them. I just think it is difficult to find a happy medium. I lost a father to smoking and have my OWN views on smoking, BUT, I am mature enough NOT to say everyone should stop smoking, it is THIER OWN personal choice. All non-smokers ask, is, DONT make it my choice. I will say I do NOT believe smoking is a right ( people do tend to overuse that blesed term), it is simply a privledge. I carry a cell phone for work, BUT,, I do NOT take cell phone calls whilst in an eatery, just a bit rude to other patrions. Definitely NOT my RIGHT to have a cell phone ( who wants THAT right anyway? LOL ), just common curtesey to others.
Non-smokers are NOT Nazis, or idiots or jerks or any of the other colorful terms I have seen. We just voted for what WE wanted.
Good luck Y'all

| A smoking ban in restaurants is picking on one group of people. I'm greateful that my state, NJ, has not proposed a ban on smoking yet. I am against govt regulation, but if smokers are to be regulated, they should at least punish people for public displays of obesity. Imagine a kid saying, "hey mommy, this fat man is happy, I want to be happy like that too." Now this poor child might become addicted to eating, and obesity is the # 1 cause of death is America. If it's not fair to smoke in public, it's not fair to overeat or be fat in public. |

Hey Tom, while I can NOT disagree that the ban targets smokers, I have to say that when smoking was allowed, it targetted NON-smokers, so, I CAN empathize. However, in our democracy, the people of florida wanted non-smoking establishments, well, now we have them.
As far as overeating............... well, I wont get into it simply because I will never compare eating food ( a nature biological NEED) to smoking ( NOT a Biological requirement) , its like comparing apples to ciggarette butts.. LOL,, there IS no analogy.
See, there IS no happy medium. unfortunately.

WRONG! The old retired people who make up the majority of the voting public in Florida voted against smoking - the rest of the culture there wants it, as is evident in the amount of petitions coming from FLA. Florida has the biggest, most citizen-supported pro-smoking lobby in the country! Check out the FLA smokers' right site in our links section and read about the facts. Until then, C716, it's better to not post and be thought a fool than post that insipid drivel and remove all doubt. Idiot. |

Wow, Bwilliams, not sure why you felt the need for name calling or to call me an Idiot, but hey, thats your deal.
As far as the "old" people in Florida, I wont disagree that they are a HUGE voting Majority here in the Sunshine state, but everyone who was caable of voting had an equal chamce to vote on the smoking ban, simply put, the majority won out. I am SURE I can find plenty of folks who say they didnt want it, no doubt about that, wityh ANYTHING contriversial, you will find that. BUT, when you have a vote on something, you will always have a side that simply will NOT gets thier way, just the nature of the beast.
Anyway, good Luck to you |

| I've seen your type here before, and I know how to attack people like you. You like to come across as "the friendly non-smoker", the one who wants to create a peaceful co-existence. The you stab everyone in the back and create non-smoking legislation. NO MORE we say - we will fight for our rights to liberty and justice! Excuse me if I stepped on your toes, but get the F*$& off my constitutional rights! That includes all rights, free speech, freedom, and liberty! |

You think as you wish, I have seen your angry type as well.
Little do you know, I am a fairly friendly guy ( Oh what a horrible thing), and if you took time to read my posts, you would see that I KNOW there is no happy medium, IM no fool. I Will support non-smoking legislation because it is MY right and thank God it IS. What you should be thankful for, IS people like myself who at least SEE the other side. You dont however. You are Just as bad or not worse than those you complain about. you spew you hatered of ANYONE who thinks different than you ( read Taliban).
In closing, go ahead with you hate spewing retorhic and I will make every attempt to calmly state my views and LISTEN to others, a trait, YOU will never employ.

C716,
BWillims can be quite vitriolic but you must remember that he is addicted to nicotine. We should pity him is substance dependency. It has made him a shell of a man and a quite stinky one at that. Can you beleive that is actually a picture of him that posts in his profile. The man is only 27 years old. A prime example of what excessive smoking can do to a man.
He tends to exaggerate his personality in this forum and I can assure you he is nothing like the Taliban. I am positive he has a goofy smile on his face everytime he posts one of his rants. However, the next time I see him I will beat him down for his rudeness toward such a rational person as yourself. |

I find the angry rantings of the Gator a pleasant distraction from the normal tit-for-tat that used to go on in this board. I say Bravo to you gator for breathing fresh life into this forum.
I, of course, am posting with a grin, simply because I always do. |
