I live in Spokane WA. I am a disabled Veteran, and have one child still living with me. I have an extremely limited income, thus I am renting our home from NEWHS (North East Washington Housing Solution)
Last Friday I found a survey taped to my door, and was shocked that HUD in Spokane WA is going to implement a "Indoor" smoking ban in all their apartments in the city of Spokane.
Frankly I am concerned that the government is overstepping their bounds here. I mean dictating what a person can do in the privacy of their own home? Banning a perfectly "legal" personal preference? If the government gets this pushed through, it will be just the beginning. It would open the door for government agencies to poke their nose into everyone's home, because the precedent will be in place.
I have contacted the media, and been interviewed twice in the last 3 days. I have contacted the ACLU. Honestly I do not know if this has happened anywhere else in the US, but if it has please let me know, and what happened because of a new policy banning indoor smoking.
Anyone who has been through something like this, and can pass on good sound advice, please do so. I am between a rock and a hard spot here, if forced out of my home, we will have no where to go, and may actually end up on the street.
I will attempt to attach the URL of my last interview, which also shows the woman whose name is on the survey, and her comments.

| While i too would be outraged, i think that since HUD homes are paid for by the govt, they are thinking they can do like renters do... dictate what can go on in their property. |
