I have to write a paper on the dangers of secondhand smoke and children.
Topics I have to cover: the health and safety risks (including statistics on illnesses, injury, death), and recommendations from the health/safety community.
This is bullshit. |

I maybe of no help, but what are the nationalities and locations of the examiners and what is the due date?
This is bleak. |

The due date is tomorrow.
What does the nationality and location of my professor have to do with it? |

| This post has been edited by me (shaddupalready). I used to have my completed paper here, but apparently some people think that's too much information for me to be sharing with you guys. |

Go ahead, flame me. Just know that I hated writing this as much as you probably hated reading it.
I couldn't fault it. Tomorrow is another day. I suppose the smoke from the Mapthaput petrochemical refineries over the last couple of decades are nuisance variables?
PS: Flash Gordon would have been lost in the dust behind an effort like that in 15 minutes! |

Haha, thanks. I'm pretty good at BSing a quick paper, especially if it's a short one. Now I've gotta write another one-page paper about car seat safety. I don't have a problem with that one, it's just the anti-secondhand smoking paper that I was frustrated with.
Pretty funny that I was on the smokinglobby forum and anti-SHS pages simultaneously. And when I was finished, I went out to go smoke a cigarette. Then I checked on my sleeping baby without washing my hands.
Oh, the irony. And the professor will never know. |

I'm glad it was taken as the compliment it was meant as ... 9-)
Dream sweet dreams and don't forget why they call those places, learning institutions.
Those who can, do, those who can't teach; and those who can do neither, administer.

When you start delving into the scientific papers on SHS (not the write ups and press releases at ASH or the lung association, etc) you will notice that none of the papers will make a definitive statement on the effects of SHS. The scare mongering statements are in the press releases.
If you have time it may be fun to change the wording to reflect science, but back up the wording with the actual science studies - footnote it to death....
Words like: Can, could, may, inconclusive, though to, and the always fun *not statistically significant*
You are dealing with the world of junk science - consensus - the inspiration for data mashing of global warming.

And is my memory incorrect that the SIDS Foundation found no corelation between SHS and SIDS? |

I have no idea. I just read the "scary" stuff that's put out there to scare the world to death of cigarettes. I already finished the paper (it was only one page), and since I just BSed my way through and wrote what I knew the professor wanted to hear, I didn't spend any extra time doing the research.
I have a feeling you're right, though. |
