hello im new to MYO RYO i wanted a cheaper way to smoke
iv been doing it for a week or so now and i am liking it
my first order was to american thrust and for 63.00 i got an
premier excel injector one box of tubes and 6 oz of thrust premium regular taste
the tubes were gambler lights and i did not like the holes near the filter so i ordered
premier light tubes from e bay (got a great deal) and i liked them much better
im about halfway or so done with the american thrust tobacco and could live with it
but i did make another order to a tribal tobacco place in new york and got
Red River Original 16oz Bag for $15.99 plus shipping (just over 5.50) now
that seemed like a real good deal to me i will let you know if its good or not
iv been thinking about getting a hand injector for back up there are good deals on e bay
like less then 10 bucks that way if my crank machine brakes i got a back up
i belive i will stick with the premier light tubes ( i used to smoke marlboro light)
but im still looking for the right tobacco at the right price
thanks for letting me join i join the other RYO forum but not accepted yet
(over a week) i like forums and will post a lot
if there is any way i can help anyone here just ask ill be glad to help |

Welcome to the Lobby.
All tubes are not made the same - experiment and buy a selection of different tubes to try out.
I started with ZigZag tubes - then went to Premier/Tops - tried out a variety of others and now settled on Zen ES light tubes -they are my favorites.
Tobacco will vary too, dabble in a bunch of different brands and flavors to see what you may like - many companies will sell small weight versions of their tobacco so you can taste test.
Tobacco will also smoke differently depending on the tubes you use - experiment with them for flavor comparison too.
Once you find your best brands - buy in bulk to cut the shipping costs down.[Same with tubes]
You can pick up hand injectors for less than $5 - I have a couple around [just in case] |

Welcome,
Hey, up until 3 years ago I use to live in the Ft Lauderdale area, Coconut Creek. There's a lot I miss about the place and a few things I hated, like city nannies trying to force a homeowners association when nearly no one wanted it. When I left, they had inspectors with their little clipboards checking for stupid things like if your lawn needed mowing or your trash cans were out of sight. I think this is what government means when they say they're creating new jobs.
I've tried a lot of injectors, I like the Premier Excel best, so IMO you're off to a good start. If you ever need parts for it here's the link: http://www.arbroinc.com/ When the instructions say don't force the machine, don't do it or you will be using that link. The mechanism is metal against metal, so it doesn't take much pressure for the parts to eventually wear out.
As for tubes, I don't like filters so I make my own by rolling Bugler papers around a Papermate shapewritter #2 pencil. Premier stopped making filterless tubes a few years back and I sure miss them. 500 tubes for like $2.50. Ah, the good ol' days.
I would be interested in a link for that NewYork tribal tobacco place. I was paying $15.70 a lb. for Stokers plus $9.00 S/H before our beloved President jacked the price up to $43 a lb. with SCHIP. I started growing my own after that. It's free but it very time consuming and a lot of work. If my supply doesn't last a year, It would be nice to have a back-up plan. Yes, I would be interest if Red River is good or not. |

Thanks for the link.
What did you do, buy the last bag of Red River Original, they're out of stock?
At those prices I can see why. Which makes me leery whether or not they're collecting the SCHIP tax. I wouldn't want a surprise letter from the gov telling me I owe. |

They are, we're not.
The odd thing is most of their bulk tobacco is priced in the SCHIP range, only about 3 brands weren't. It doesn't make sense they'd collect taxes on some and not others. |

I look forward to your review of Black Owl Smooth (I presume). I've only found one comment.
The Black Owl Smooth is light, no bite, and tastes similar to (or better than) the tobacco used in Marlboro's Virginia Blend ready rolled. I mail order my Black Owl from Smokes-Spirits out of NY. They sell a 16 oz. (full pound) bag for $15.99 - best price I've found.
These days the only way to save money is by using the untaxed pipe cut tobaccos which are sometimes called 'Smooth'. I usually end up snipping them a bit before injecting.

PipesandCigars.com is a first rate supplier with many of the most popular new pipe cuts and tubes.
SmokersOutlet is also a good vendor, very quick ship and some very good tube prices. They also have customer comments which can be useful.
Quote: i used to smoke marlboro lights
Also note you'll have to make an adjustment as using the pipe cuts it's almost impossible to get a very light smoke. With official SCHIP taxed tobbacos it's possible using the 'expanded' tobaccos (which Marlboro Lights contain).

You might want to try the well respected Silver (light) D&R brands.
- Vengeur - Typical America blend
- Windsail - Virginia only.
