I thought of a great idea. Why not immortalize the legislators who voted for the gruesome cig packs by making up flyers that show the gruesome photos next to this statement:

This photo brought to you by [name of state legislator]

The smoke shops have nothing to lose because the legislators are destroying their business anyway. At least they would feel empowered by fighting back. They're entitled to one last hurrah before they have to close their doors.

The legislators probably haven't thought about the fact that their names will forever be associated with the grotesque images they decided to put on the cig packs. It would be great to solidify that association in people's mind by making sure everyone who buys a cig pack knows who sent them the photo, possibly even putting a photo of the legislator right there on the flyer so people can never forget it.

It's only fitting that the state legislators get full credit for their noble work and are forever linked to the disgusting images in people's minds.

If the legislators don't like it, well, the truth is always a defense. There's no law against informing people about how their state legislator voted.

Hi all,

I haven't been here for awhile, and my apologies if someone's already suggested this, but if this sort of nonsense bothers you, why not just buy (or make) a cigarette case?

I do understand the outrage well, but I've also found that a sense of humor helps. I can't help poking fun at these ridiculous tactics. Please remember that the people of Nazi-occupied countries experienced the same thing - solely because of an insane group intent on world domination. Fortunately, all of the would-be negative utopias lie in the dustbin of history...
There isn't much point in making a cigarette case to hold cigarettes that you won't be able to buy because all the smoke shops have been driven into bankruptcy. How would you like to work in a place where all your products are packaged in a way that is meant to repulse people? Would you expect people to continue coming to your place of business in broad daylight, with other people watching?

I suppose that's why the legislators have been so keen to stop people from mailing cigarettes, because the perverted game won't be any fun if smokers have a way to maintain a sense of personal dignity. In their free time, just for fun, these people probably sit around burning ants to death with magnifying glasses and pouring salt on garden slugs just to watch them writhe.

Things keep getting worse and worse, and they will continue to get worse and worse until the people behind the out-of-control persecution meet with forceful resistance. Did the Nazis just wake up one day, have a change of heart and decide to live the rest of their lives as decent human beings? No, they did not. It took World War II to stop them.

Well said. If they don't want to be associated with these pics, they should not have voted for them.
Also, i would love to see how many of those senators smoke themselves.

I can't imagine how the people who own and work in smoke shops must feel right now, since people are trying to put them out of business and out of their jobs. There aren't that many other jobs available for those who are displaced.

Maybe at least one bold soul will take a stand. If someone was threatening my job with the unemployment rate so high, I would figure I had nothing to lose and might as well take a stand and fight back.

As long as they stick to the truth about how their representatives voted, they are just passing along information that is already available to the public and so there shouldn't be any problem. Like they taught us in journalism school, the truth is always a defense. You have nothing to fear as long as you stick with verifiable statements of fact.

The sad fact of the matter is, many smokers will not realize what has happened until they go to buy their cigarettes and the photos are already on the packages. Maybe people will finally wake up and realize they need to get active, seek out information about pending legislation that affects their lives and start fighting back. Smokers have a right to do that just like any other self-respecting US citizen who upholds our Constitution.

I don't know what all the fuss is about not wanting to pay the tax on Tobacco.
the most expensive tobacco I buy produces a pack of smokes for around 2 dollars and that's with all the tax. Come on, 2 dollars is too much to pay for 20 smokes?
A large cup of Coffee at Dunkin Donuts costs me more, so should I wright my congress man and bitch about the price of coffee?

Just a question....
Did you get this pissed when gas was 4 dollars a gallon or were you busy making excuses for the republican party trying your best to explain why 4 Dollars was A-Okay?

That cup of coffee is not saddled with three dollars worth of excise taxes.

Again, this was not due to some ridiculous taxation.

Oh, and by the way, the Democratic party AND the Republican party can KISS MY ASS. Niether of these mobs gives a shit about anything except getting or keeping their gangsters in power.

It is refered to as not wanitng to get rapped with extra taxes on top of the 200% we already pay. If you look at the price of tobacco sans tax, you could easily get a pack of smokes for just over a dollar. WITH taxes, you can rarely find them below 3.

What about empty card packs to carry the cigs? An ambitious entrepeneur could probably do good business making cheap custom cigarette cases. I know that's not the real issue; the real problem is the disgusting bullying tactics, but at least people wouldn't have to look at those pictures. In the spirit of visual effects, why don't all the goverment laws that erode our freedoms come with pictures of mass grave sites and warning labels of all the atrocities that happen when governments run amock. I'm sure there wouldn't be too many votes for that in congress. The lack of guts people have these days is astounding. I will be quite honest in saying, I'm one of the most gutless people out there, but in comparison to many who claim to represent us, I feel positively brave.
