I have been rolling my own smokes now for about two months. The price of a pack of smokes was getting too much to afford so I went to the local smoke shop and bought a small Top hand roller, sometubes and a bag of tobacco. The tubes and tabacco came to around 8-9 dollars and would last me a few weeks so I was really happy I found a cheap alternative.
Today I go to get my supplies and see that the 6 dollar bag of tobacco is now 25 dollars! I heard there was a tax coming and hadn`t thought it would be this extreme. The guy at the smoke shop told me the prices are getting out of hand and has really hurt his buisness. A one pound bag of tobacco was around 15-20 dollars and now it`s up to 50+! I think this is totally unfair to us! Didn`t we go to war with england to escape this kind of stuff? Is there anything we can do?
I`m new to the forum and found this after doing a search for smokers rights. How is the tax in other states? There must be something we can do. I`m just ranting because I`m very angry and i want to do something about it. |

It's a Federal tax on loose tobacco, the second bill Obama signed into law - HR 2 SCHIP
Tax went from $1.09/lb to $24.78/lb
The only difference you will see is the difference between pre-mades and RYO cigarettes.
[Until the states catch up those taxes] |

Bane I cant agree more. The average American is a Sheep and will take whatever the government dishes out. We did fight a war over 200 years ago and put Tea in the Harbor over Unfair Taxes. They were called Patriots, Today you would be called a Felon for dumping a load of Tobacco in Boston harbor. When did It become the governments job to dictate social behavior. They say Cigarette smoking costs the US 154 billion a year. Whats next a tax on Diabetics They Cost the US 174 Billion a Year http://www.diabetes.org/diabetes-statistics/cost-of-diabetes-in-us.jsp Wait till they put that $5.00 tax on every Pizza or buck on every burger... then the sheep will scream.
Enough on my Rants..
If you want to Fight Back against the High Taxes on RYO there is an out. look around for a local or online supply of Pipe tobacco. There are blends out there without flavorings. Straight Burly and Virginia tobaccos that are in a Pipe Cut. The cut is wider but with a grinder or chopper will be just like your RYO Tobacco. http://forum.ryorevolution.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=806 and can still buy it for around $25 a pound or $8 for 6oz but you will pay shipping so buying bulks cuts down that cost. If you do have a local shop I would try there First, save the shipping.
The Olny thing after that is growing our own..and I'm considering it.
Keep Fighting! |

| Ummmm... you think "we the people" aren't screaming? Check out the states that are having "TEA" parties on April 15. There's over 2000 (I think I read) cities in the U.S. |

I know all about the "Taxed Enough Already" and I think it a great Idea. I'll be at my local one. |

I went to the web sites for the "Tea Party", and I can't say that I'm impressed. It reminds me a lot of the American Constitution Party here in Nevada. I have trouble supporting any group that is obviously against the American Worker. Quite frankly, I'd rather pay the new tax than hang out with far right wing, anti-middle class, anti- LEGAL immigrant, pro corporate group.
The group here in NV is a thinly disguised white supremesist party, although I can't say with 100% certainty that these "tea party" groups are the same. Too many similarities though for my taste. I won't get too political, though. This isn't the place for non tobacco related politics, and I don't feel like having to ignore trolls and flames to read about smoking rights issues. |
