Hi..

Are you innovative ?

We are 3 students from Copenhagen Business School attending a course in userdriven innovations. In this course we are testing and evaluating different tactics for generating new ideas.

We got the overall question: "How can it be more enjoyable for nonsmokers to be in a room with smokers, without banning smoking?"

To evaluate our question we need you to come up with ideas. Any ideas are welcome no matter cost, as long its not about banning the smokers, since we dont see it as an option. Instead we trying to generate an idea that enables smokers to be in the same room as non-smokers.

Any ideas are welcome, and you are all welcome to comment on each others ideas, and hereby refine the ideas. Please note that the ideas will not be commercialized, but only used in classes.

Best regards
John

Is "beating the non-smokers to death" a viable option? Smile

It is clear that separation of smokers from non-smokers combined

with air exchange technology is a complete solution to this largely

artificial problem. All it takes is regulating authorities setting the

standards for indoor air quality on passive smoke, and the technology

does the rest. Such air quality standards are common in industrial

and environmental contexts. But, to date, no country in the world has

set them for smoking areas. It seems clear that the reasons are not

scientific, nor are they economic or technical: they are political.

As to the annoyance of smoking, a compromise between smokers and non-smokers
can be reached, through setting a quality standard and the use of modern
ventilation technology.

Air ventilation can easily create a comfortable environment that removes not
just passive smoke, but also and especially the potentially serious
contaminants that are independent from smoking.

Show the non smokers the studies on SHS and how to read RR levels correctly, then they won't mind being in a room with smoking allowed.

So here's what you do: Split the non-smokers into two groups.

Group One:
Give them reading materials and information from ASH, tobacco free kids, Pharmaceutical company websites on SHS.

Group Two:
Give them the reading materials as above.
Also give them reading materials on how to read a scientific paper.
Give them information from FORCES.org on scientific evidence.

Controlled Atmosphere Record:
Watch and record the two separate groups reaction and their 'feelings' in the same venue where smoking is allowed.

I personally don't give a rat's butt whether a non-smoker's time with me is enjoyable or not...

John, the primary approach has to be education. Since the antismoking lobby has such clear and overwhelming dominance of the media by virtue of their funding and professional press-release capabilities, it is difficult to overcome the ingrained fears and prejudice that have been built up in people over the past decades.

You obviously can't expect people to sit down with a textbook and come to a full understanding of the lies they've been subjected to so repeatedly. The best approach is probably a fact based, easily read "propaganda pamphlet." I.E. something that's honest, that has scientific authority and information for those who can digest it, but is still easily read by "Joe The Plumber" over a sandwich and a beer.

That's what I've tried to put together with the "Stiletto" booklet freely available at:

http://encyclopedia.smokersclub.com/257.html

Print it out, give it to any concerned nonsmokers, workers, or business owners, and see if it cracks through the lies.
