We had an OSU party at our house yesterday where I gathered 39
signatures to send to my legislators. It was interesting hearing
everyone's stories.
One gal is a nurse who works at Miami Valley Hospital which has
banned smoking on its grounds. She and many others including
patients in wheelchairs with IV's must walk across a busy street to
smoke at the Apple Street $2.00 parking lot. The hospital wants to
buy the lot but the owner has refused to sell. Instead he spray
painted "PARKING SMOKE" on his lot. When he gets angry he takes his
blower and blows the discarded butts across the street onto hospital
grounds. Oops! She also said that since the smoking ban, the
hospital has put up security cameras in every courtyard and they also
monitor the smokers crossing the street. Such a ridiculous law!
Another woman works at numerous nursing homes. She said they will no
longer accept new residents who smoke. They must either quit or wear
a patch.
A waitress from Outback Steak House said that smoking servers were
banned to a very small enclosed fly infested area that houses the
restaurant dumpster. She said it is a disgusting place. They were
banned from smoking behind the restaurant BECAUSE PASSING MOTORISTS ON THE HIGHWAY WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE THEM. Beginning next week, they
will be banned from smoking altogether.
