I don't know what connection to big Pharma you're talking about--the NIH operations are part of the US federal budget and fund nearly the entirety of public biomedical research in the US (as opposed to private biomedical research, which is frequently funded and conducted by pharmaceutical companies).

Tell me Thomas, have you looked, really dug deep and looked at WHERE the NIH gets it's money? First from the tax-payers, in which the smoking minority contribute the most via extortionist taxes. Seriously, take a deep look and I'll bet you'll find RWJF in there somewhere.

Our research has nothing to do with pharmaceuticals--we study decision-making in the human brain using MRI!

Bullshit, it has everything to do with pharma. You want to study the decision making of humans in the brain? And then pharma can design a "miracle" pill to kill more pleasure centers. What the hell is wrong with accepting that God gave us all free will and wants us to exercise it? What is wrong with just accepting that we all make decisions for different reasons without trying to find a way to fvck up our heads with drugs to force us to not make choices some pantywaist wussie doesn't like?

Not only that, where's the proof that your research will be any less biased than the rest? Where's the guarantee that you won't try to make a buck from pharma for your findings so they can develop another mind altering drug?

Sorry to sound so harsh here, but public health, researchers, ACS, ALA, RWJF, etal have lied so much I can't trust anyone claiming to do good anymore.

Remember, the road to hell is always paved with "good intentions".

As I said earlier, good luck with that. The only smokers you will find are the brainwashed weaklings too weak to make their own decisions.
