The coming election cycle has inspired a few of us to start busting our asses and identify political candidates who are smoker friendly and those who support bans. Along with Dave and the Hawaii crew, we've put together a pretty comprehensive scorecard for Wisconsin.

Our hope is to identify and support those who support us and chase down those who don't and make them fess up as to why they don't believe is rights and freedom.

Are there any other groups in other states out there who are interested? If so, I know Dave would like to know, but i would as well. It would be nice to have as many states involved as we can because the more people we have involved and vocal, the more power we'll have in sending our message.

For an idea as to what we're doing, here's our scorecard:

I bumped into this article today on Iowa:

Are you working with Smokers Club? They may already have a section in the encyclopedia.

Clinton County Republicans recruited Jon Van Roekel, a frozen-pizza- business owner, to run against Winckler, partly because of the smoking ban. Roekel, a former bar and restaurant owner, organized his own group, Clinton Organized Bar and Restaurant Association, to help launch a legal fight against the ban. The group's members believe the law gives casinos an unfair competitive advantage since smoking is allowed in areas where gambling takes place.

Bukta said she understands why bar and some restaurant owners are upset, saying, "If I did hurt any business, I'm terribly sorry." She preferred a smoking ban that would have included casinos. However, through the legislative process, she was left with choosing to vote for a ban that excluded casinos. She believes voters in her area will understand her dilemma.

It'll be a shame to waste the $40,000 they've got now plus whatever else they can raise between now and the time they start their legal action. All they'll do is hasten the inevitable spread of the ban to the casinos thinking that that will somehow help their bottom line. It won't.

This plays right into antis hand. They've now got the bar and restaurant owners doing their bidding for them and anti doesn't have to spend a dime. Such irony.

The antis are laughing harder than the French when they figured out they could sell water to the Americans for more per gallon than gasoline sells for.

Just a shame.

Yep, worked in OheilO too. Private clubs, like VFW and Moose, Eagles, etc; were exempt, until the bar and restaurant people filed lawsuits to stop it. Their allies in the suit were the AHA, ALA, and ACS. The very people who are putting them out of business.

many of them just don't get it. They know they're getting hurt, and instead of taking a logical approach they jump on the bandwagon that the ALA, ACS etc are towing which would "level the playing field" and hurt everybody instead of just some.

The thing that really pisses me off the most is, the people voted on the damned thing, and then before it could even take effect, it was changed (made all-inclusive and tighter)in the courts. Other things were changed by the state health boards and the politicians, too, making it the only OheilO law in history I know of that was written after it was voted on.

That $40, 000 would be put to much better use in a SMOKERS ARE PEOPLE TOO ad blitz. This thing is eventually going to be decided by emotion, not in the coursts.

yeah, that's the real dangerous part about this. I don't know if I have ever seen a greater abuse of power than when "public health" is concerned. They can somehow use it to overrule law and public opinion because, well, they claim to know what's best and us dummies can't be trusted to make the right decisions.
