Ok, I know you're out there since I see your pics plastered all over MySpace...
Ban the Ban Wisconsin is working on putting together an "art and beauty of the smoke" 2009 Calendar, and we need your help. We need pictures of you people (we want new, original pics) making smoking look sexy and glamorous.
While this is certainly a deeply controversial move, we're personally sick and tired of smokers being made out to be monsters or subhuman in some way. The tobacco companies may not be able to do it, but we sure can.
We feel that smoking, like most anything else, can enhance an image or be an attribute of somebody. We want to defy the anti-smokers and do what we can to remind everybody that smoking can be sexy as hell.
We'll take pics of guys and gals (although I'm probably not the best judge of sexy guys) and if we can get enough pictures we'll do a calendar for boys and one for girls.
Either way, what we want to do is get these out there. Get them to bars ans smoke shops and anywhere else that they can be hung up. Lace them with smoking facts, ban facts etc and try to spread the word.
We'll handle the design and printing. We just need pictures of all of you sexy and proud smokers

| EXCELLENT IDEA!! I suggested this years ago, but it never came to pass. You could put their profession in their, too, like Jane _, 34, Nurse. as an example. Maybe even a pic of them AT work, although these days, they couldn't be smoking. My suggestion for the calendar title, as well as an all-out AD campaign, was, SMOKERS ARE PEOPLE TOO. They fill you prescriptions, repair your car, handle your insurance, etc. |

Thanks, and damn right smokers are people too!
Sometimes I think that people need a reminder of that. The anti-tobacco movement has done so much damage with stigmatizing and denormalizing smokers... Frankly it makes me sick. I would like to see an end to that. |
