This is really sad news, especially since this change-of-heart(of Sen. Bishop previously not bringing the bill up for a vote, and now doing so) came outta nowhere. At the rate smoking bans continue to pass(and especially due to how the Iowa smoking ban passed this year outta nowhere, along with the ban that probably now will pass in Michigan), I'm honestly not sure if there will be any states still left without some form of a smoking ban(even if some do exempt bars, casinos, private clubs, and just maybe a few other types of various workplace/restaurant exemptions) in 3-4 years, tops.
I'm just still pretty annoyed though, that Bishop chose to break his word with the Michigan Restaurant Association, and let a bill like this come up for a vote. |

| The REALLY sad thing is (at least the one that saddens me the most) is the fact that statewide bans have more than quadrupled since 9/11. I remember when that happened-the rabid smoker-haters/heart ass./lung ass/cancer soc./et al were quiet for about a mere 24 hours-then it was back to business as usual. I recall they were trying to get the new york newspapers to airbrush out the cigarettes shown in pictures of cops and firemen and other rescue workers-one major nazi in NY said'smokers can't be shown as heroes'. Since then we've given rights away at an ever-increasing rate. I'm swiftly getting to the point where I no longer care if the country falls. |
