I totally agree. I couldn't have put it better myself. I live in the Bay Area in California where i can't even smoke outside my apartment in the common areas or at my bus stop or in the atm line or a movie ticket line anymore among many other things. It's horrifying and what you said about control is right on the money. Thanks for posting that. Zoe[/b] |

Oh that's a simple Q. Smoking bans are one part of the antis' goal to have a smoke-free USA. But they can keep on dreaming if they think we WILL have a smoke-free USA.
Smoking bans are a joke. People still keep on smoking, and they sneak their smokes in "gang fashion" at places like Wrigley Field.
Speaking of that Jay, I still once in a while see people sneaking smokes inside businesses in Chicago, despite the state ban(and also the city ban). I get real psyched whenever I do end up seeing someone break the state ban, and smoke inside places anyway. (not to sadly mention, I unfortunately have fewer balls to risk/attempt doing so than many, and it ticks me off to no end that I'm still jobless after quitting my last job 2 1/2 years ago)
Won't be publically naming any places where I've seen it happen, and they will remain unnamed. I guess if there was a site like Smoke Choke Ohio for Illinois, they'd probably leak out, though.... |

They've been calling on smoke free *which ever state* you're from for some time but I heard on one of the news station some joker calling for a *Smoke Free America* maybe once he figures out he can't get that, that whole movement will start to Free us from something else...lol...the cell phone thing...lol...some of these older folks who are getting brain tumors of late couldn't get them from cell phones, cell phones haven't been around long enough, it must be TVs...lol..now to date myself...when TVs first came out they caused cancer as well...not to mention they always carried the potential of blowing up...lol...and look where we are now...faster, meaner, slicker TVs....
There's always someone with a pet peeve, personal project or crusade that seems to catch the eye of the politians and off they go and in most cases it's just for a vote...
These folks need a hobby so they'll quit worrying about someone else....something to keep their minds from dreaming up all these over the edge things that will *harm us*....:) |

To answer Darkseid's question, sadly about the only thing that keeps me happy about living in Chicago anymore is that I still get plenty of outdoor smoking sightings, even to this day. Also helps too that it's summer(so that all places that have outdoor patios are open), and that it isn't winter. Finally, it helps that I found an area in my basement of my apartment building that works well for smoking indoors(my parents unfortunately won't allow me to smoke in my apartment, even though I've tried to reason with them that I'd only do it in my own bedroom, and nowhere else), and works well for ventilating the smoky air out when I'm done smoking.
Not to also mention, I'm lucky enough to be able to make occasional trips to Indiana, where you can for the most part still find some places that allow you to smoke indoors, don't have to worry about the occasional outdoor smoking bans(i.e. on beaches, and luckily the majority of the few outdoor bans that exist aren't quite California-bad, yet), and obviously, cheaper cigarettes(as opposed to excessive cig taxes Chicago and C(r)ook County impose). Unfortunately, my trips there don't occur as often as I'd like them to be. If I could afford moving out and living on my own, I would(and if I could move anywhere, it'd likely be to the state of Georgia to be closer to my dad's relatives. not to mention, it helps that under the Georgia state ban, any place that's 18+ can legally allow smoking if they choose), but I unfortunately can't as of now. At least I'm surviving, considering all the annoying circumstances(and won't get into any specifics, other than the few I mentioned above) that face my life. |
