A statewide smoker ban passed the Michigan House today (majority is now cRATS, I think), but will face a much tougher battle in the Senate due to a super-powerful state Restaurant Association (a rarity)and a republican majority. Casinos and race tracks, would, of course, be exempt, since we all know ETS is a serious problem everywhere but a place that makes big money for the state.

Check out how tough the Michigan Restaurant Association is-I'd venture to say they might be THE toughest one in the states. google any other state's association, and you'll see they aren't shit when it comes to fighting politicians or legislation.

I should note that I read online somewhere that the MI smoking ban bill passed by just the BARE minimum number of votes needed for bills to pass out of the MI House. (which is 56 votes) And you're right about the MI House being controlled by Dems.

Still crossing my fingers that the MI Senate will counter the MI House's move, and pass a free-market oriented solution requiring exterior signage of any private businesses choosing to allow smoking, and possibly also include tax breaks for businesses choosing to either prohibit smoking, or utilizing air purification/ventilation systems. Sure bet such a proposal would catch MI anti lawmakers p***ing in their pants, but I still think if this model legislation were to pass in Michigan, it could ideally jumpstart ban repeal efforts in Illinois and Ohio, and maybe even blow to Minnesota. But in the end, I'd still be very happy with seeing this bill die, even if that idealistic solution doesn't happen.

And a great site about that Buckeye State that everyone, regardless if they disagree or agree with my paragraph above, will like: http://www.smokechoke.com

I just went to that "smokenarc" site...apparently a person with the reporting name of "robin" went on a barhopping and reporting smokers binge on 12/4. She reported The Eagles Lodge in Kenton OH, the Moose Lodge in Marion OH, the Brothers Bar in Lakeview OH, the American Legion Post 584 in Marion OH, and The Warehouse (whatever that is) in Bellefontain OH all in one day. Her e-mail address according to the "smokechoke" website is rmathys@roadrunner.com Twisted Evil

Looks like we have a good sign out of the Michigan Senate already:

I definitely should've been as optimistic as dark was about the Mich Senate, that's for sure! Hopefully, the Michigan Senate will continue to prove me right on this issue for some time to come......

Didn't realize the same person reported several businesses there all at once, lol! I think my favorite entry I've noticed there is seeing that the New Albany, Ohio Post Office is listed, and reading how the Postmaster, and certain other employees, of that Post Office lighting up inside that building without any second thoughts or remorse...... Very Happy Twisted Evil
