It's from England, but who knows how long before someone gets the idea here in the states?

Proposals to ban smokers from lighting up behind the wheel have met with a mixed response from smoking and driving groups.

The Local Authority Road Safety Officers' Association (LARSOA) is calling on the Government to introduced a ban on smoking while driving to reduce the number of road accidents.

It claims drivers put their own lives and those of their passengers at risk when they take their hands off the wheel to light a cigarette, or when ash falls in the vehicle.

Check out this link on driver distractions.

Smoking is WAY DOWN on the list

And so isn't cell phones - but they got away with that in alot of places.
Although I do use hands-free cell all the time - I like it - but it's my choice - as seatbelt use...

These results suggest that, among smokers cigarette smoking may improve driving performance and that there may exist an optimal nicotine dose for the enhancement of cognitive and psychomotor function.

But the antis don't care about "smoking" being at the bottom of the list .

Some people can't chew gum and walk at the same time ---------
Should a test for multi-tasking be given as part of the drivers test?
