It's all over except the cryin' and the pink slips. Pawlenty signing it is simply a formality and you can bet when he does sign it, it'll get more press coverage around here than if he paraded down Summit Ave. naked with a banana jammed up his butt.
For several months now the airwaves have been saturated with Big Pharma financed (through the back door in most cases), quit-smoking ads in anticipation of the ban. It's been a blatant and disgusting spectacle for the few that understand the money trail.
Most (even a majority of smokers I think) seem to just repeat what they hear or read in the heavily-biased local press...."wave of the future"....."health-care savings"...."makes my hair stink"....blah, blah, blah.
StarTrib was careful to get the usual propaganda into the story:
Some Durkin's patrons said the state ban would at least put all bars on the same level.
"Maybe it will help me quit," said Amanda Smith.
Sad day for Minnesota. |

We're always hearing ban supporters pontificate about how, in the near future, people will be incredulous that smoking was ever actually allowed in bars and restaurants.
The way things are going (anti-smoking, MADD, trans-fat, fois-gras) I'm thinking we'll all be looking back and trying to remember when there were actually even bars and restaurants. |

Sorry to hear you have now become a complete fascist people's republik like OheilO. I feel for you guys out there... everytime I read my news forums, I run into a story about Mn. It seems that state is going the way of Karloffornia. Ugh.
quote;
"For several months now the airwaves have been saturated with Big Pharma financed (through the back door in most cases), quit-smoking ads in anticipation of the ban."
This must be the artillery barrage that softens all the dummies up before the charge. All you heard here on the radio were those miserable ads, and they were ALL over TV as well. You'd have to be a complete and utter fool not to see the connection with pharma.
And, once again, it seems most people are complete and utter fools. Or, they don't give a rat's ass.
The way it's all going, people will be looking back trying to remember not only bars and restaraunts, they'll be trying to recall that thing once known as freedom.
The assholes are already throwing it away left and right. |

Hey Jeep, long time no see.
Here's a recent quote from that fat pig Dave Thune: "Free speech is a two-way street. If it is shut down by either side, then the terrorists will have won." http://forums.e-democracy.org/groups/stpaul-issues/messages/post/7Il36mByo8O5qRHU0kVYOi
This is the same asshole who refused to listen to anyone when they tried to tell him what was going to, and has, happened since the smoking ban took effect in St. Paul which he spear-headed.
It appears, since the national republican convention is going to be in St. Paul, he's made it his fat asses agenda to get all the permits for all the people who are going to protest.
The fat hog says he's going to be protesting with them.
Anyway, he's up for re-election this year, so it might be time to be sure he gets out, even though the majority of us can't vote in his district. |

Looking for someone out there who can direct me to someone out there about some very pointed specifics on the new nazi smoking rules and regs in public places...I'm thinking there may be a way around this BULLSHIT. (specifically Washington Cty. MN.) Anxiously awaiting any reply...Gotta move on this, October 1st is just around the corner...And so is my soon to be smokeless pub!

Yeah, the fat piece of [doodee] started up again at the end of last summer. Fat [freak]'s getting geared up for his campaign. Check out one of the prick's latest comments from the e-democracy forum:
"by the way, thanks to the dozens of heroes who advocated for, and elected leaders who voted for the clean air legislation at the capital last week. You've done something that you can be proud to tell your grandchildren about!"
Dave Thune
City Councilmember
City of Saint Paul, Minnesota
office: 651-266-8620
The dipshit also says he loves White Castle Hamburgers, so can you imagine the flatuencence that must come out of the anus of this fat prick? I'm sure that air's clean. Dipshit also goes on: "On a serious note, St. Paul's adopted policy is that we ask national identification only when a person is charged with a serious crime. Not at routine traffic stops, not at calls for service at work or home. We want every resident of St. Paul to feel free to call the police for help - unafraid that they will be deported. We are still not living in a country where an anonymous official can "demand to see your papers" like in a black and white movie about the eastern bloc."
Nah, fucktard prefers to go one step beyond Hitler by pushing for the banning of smokers.
Jackboy, I'd suggest finding the bill. Maybe I'll try to track it down later, but I'm pretty pissed after reading the comments from this Thune moron. I mean how does someone like this get into politics?
What's your bar? Maybe I'll take a swing out there sometime. |

Your best move would be to get your fellow pub owners, and I mean ALL of them in your area, to blatantly flout the ban. Sure....hide the ashtrays because I believe they can fine the owner for displaying them (sometimes I really can't believe I'm actually saying these things....hiding ashtrays....geeez) but it seems that most courts in locales with bans, if taken to task, have ruled that owners ARE NOT responsible for enforcing the ban on patrons. No more than you would be responsible for intervening in a drug deal going on in the game room.
Forget about fighting it on the basis of property rights or freedom of choice. I've yet to hear of a court ANYWHERE ruling favorably on these issues. Public health (phony as the "science" backing up the "SHS KILLS" claims are) has always trumped everything else.
You guys (pub owners) are at the forefront of this battle and probably have the most to lose. If you don't hang together against this tyranny, you will surely hang alone. |
