The basic lesson to be learned at this point is to quit buying off the internet. Every state is going to do this. Hell, spitzer, in New yawk is trying to find a way to collect taxes off products (not just tobacco) sold on Indian reservations there. You're just asking for it later.

And, I'm sure there are sites that won't just give out this information......however, when they're threatened, and given a court order, they'll sure as hell give you up.

RYO, MYO, pay cash, call it good.

That's been my viewpoint for years....Buy in person - never with a credit card or check - always in cash....on any item that can be viewed as a "Sin" item.

Talking cigarettes and Alcohol...for now....

We are all being tracked on our purchases, supermarkets in my area have 'Customer Savings Cards' I never buy cigs or alcohol with them.

If you tax it - They will come.

The person who joined this forum Saturday(only to be deleted by HACKER) as "cookofdeath"when the hacker was at work deleting files, told me who reported him to PA tax authoritues:
xxxxxxxxx

His story was that he was buying over internet for years and was never advised that their policy had changed. He was on autoship! He said he was advised by PA he owed bet 4000 and 8000 dollars with penalties and interest, that may include jail time for purchases from 2004!! He said he had a family of 4 and made about 25000 per year and didn't have the means to pay.

My advice was to seek legal advice. He said he was going to see his Congressman and Senator today (Monday).

Why does it take three years to notify a buyer of taxes owed? Either the State of Pa or internet seller or both are in collusion to maximize tax revenue without alerting the buyer that they owe tax on the first order placed. Is PA waiting until all buyers reach a minimum of 100 cartons before they swoop down on their prey?I think he should sue both the website and the State of Pa and that he should not be liable for any tax because he was not notified IMMEDIATELY.

I could not get on for two days. here's the rub. the way i see it , i owe...8836.73. now this is over a three and a half year period. has anyone ever heard of such a thing? i'm hoping they are willing to settle with me but damn. i have a bad feeling about this because they want to make examples out of us so i'm expecting no sympathy. i did some research, get this it was UPS!!!!! The smoke shop did not leak it. It was UPS. PA threatened to not allow UPS/FedEx to deliver within the commonwealth unless they told who the cigarettes were being shipped to from the reservations. they tried this with the post office but since it's pretty impossible to tell the post office they can't deliver in a state it had no teeth there. this explains why , my bill is only for cigarettes purchased up to august of 2005. this is exactly when buycheapcigarettes stopped using UPS and started using the post office.

If it was UPS,then you may get another tax bill for all purchases after Aug 2005,if in fact you are reported by the seller.
