...You're killing me with your car fumes!
Sarcasm aside, it's idiotic that those who fight smokers' rights with such a militant attitide ignore the considerably worse consequences of car fumes.
Now I may live in a small and insignificant city in the north of Scotland, but traffic congestion is quite a problem, especially in the inner city. Anti-smoking trends are rising here, also.
If these people genuinly consider the health of themselves and their ilk, why on earth aren't they banning cars? Oh, wait, perhaps they're merely following the growing anti-smoking trend without actually considering their arguments...
Yes, I'm new here. I like to consider myself a considerate smoker. I'm aware of when and where it's appropriate to smoke. But I certainly believe that the laws being proposed in this country are ridiculous and unwarranted.
An excellent website you have here. I'll be sure to visit frequently.

| in response to GCU, your kidding right? well in your logic we should be able to drive "indoors". i mean the hell with trying to at least keep the air inside public buildings clean, why not let people dring there cars righ inside there favorite pubs? the crap coming out of that cancer stick you light up and suck on is the same thing coming out of your cars tailpipe. you need to except the fact that what your doing makes other people sick. yes there are other things on this planet that make people sick also. but im sorry if it hurts your feelings that we dont like having our food taste like [doodee]. and having the air where we work smell like [doodee]. but your gonna have to get used to it. YOU DONT HAVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE ME SICK!!!!! |

| Yes I do have the right to make you sick. Smoking is a legal activity at least here in the State of NJ. So, hang out in NJ, and I'll be happy to make you sick with my smoke. Some of the freedoms in America can make others sick. I deal with it, because I know it's all in my mind. Now if you get sick from secondhand smoke, it's all in your head. You getting sick a mental sickness and not a physical sickness, so I have no respect for you or anyone who asks me not to smoke. Start your car inside, stay there a an hour, and report back to us and let us know if it has the same effect on you as people smoking in a bar does. Let me know for sure if that has the same effect on you as cigarette smoke does. Thanks. |

Tom, I have to agree.
Guest, for someone who likes to talk a lot, why don't you reveal yourself instead of hiding behind "Guest". Kinda like a KKK member . . . always hiding. Yes, please sit in the garage for an hour with your car running and see what happens, but first sit in your garage with a smoker and see what happens.
You're not too bright are you? Obviously from your spelling . . .
You're a little beeoch! |

What about the danger those drivers pose to me when they are talking on a cell phone? Or putting on makeup, or reading the paper while they drive. And what about factory pollution?? Where are the laws against those things? And if a law exists, why isn't it enforced like the smoking bans?? The whole situation is a farce. Society is so busy trying to protect me from myself, but only when it is convient for the majority, that the word freedom has all but disappered. It's time for another Boston Tea Party, only it needs to be a Chicago Tea Party, and a Lexington Tea Party, ect. If a bunch of hippies on drugs could change a war, why can't we all unite and change the smoking bans???[/u] |

| I know those factory pollution laws get enforced from time to time. I know there was a raid in my nearest city, Paterson, NJ recently. The cell phone law is a separate law that is enforced by some officers. I know of people in NYC that got caught for this. The law about putting on makeup while driving can be considered reckless driving. I know someone who got a ticket for this in Franklin Lakes, NJ. All these laws are enforced like the smoking bans. The difference with the smoking bans is that you have a group of nazis that help the police support these bans. Regular people don't give a crap if a factory makes a lot of smoke, if someone's on the cell phone or doing makeup while driving. It's unfortunate, I know. We can stop it by not giving in, sticking up for our rights, and not being afraid to fight when necessary. |

| What if someone came into a diner you were eating in and took a dump? It would smell really awful, right? You'd be pretty appalled and irritated, wouldn't you? However, if someone does their business in a bathroom, where it is supposed to be done and is kept away from those who don't wish to deal with it, then you don't have a problem do you? Suck it up and go outside to smoke, k? I don't complain when you do it outside or in your home. About the car thing, no one forces you to stand within 5 feet of a tail pipe in an enclosed area. And finally, I would say about 2/3's of the smokers I know support the NYC and NYS ban because "they don't like to smell like ash trays". Ironic. |

That is the dumbest thing I ever heard. I live in NYC and I KNOW not only noone who smokes supports the ban, but plenty of non-smoking bar owners and casual drinking smokers are against the ban as well. That's why they're changing the law to allow smoking in designated areas. But the reason your statement is so stupid, is that smokers ALWAYS smell like they smoked, and they don't mind. Your statement is idiotic. |

No no no, either you deal with my smoke in a diner or bar or whatever, or move to a state that doesn't allow smoking. There's plenty of restaurants that don't allow smoking, so stay out of the smoking restaurants and bars if it bothers you. Go on all your vacations to NY, FL, MA or CA and never go overseas. Then you'll be fine. Smokers don't support the ban you dumb as$. |
