The Gov is proposing a 10 cent tax hike per pack in his new budget. Here is the kicker smokeless and cigars are going to have an excise tax put on them( non on them now) just sales tax. Get this it will be by the ounce 36 cents. I see this as a prelude to taxing RYO bags or cannistors by the ounce. Also proposing a 1% sales tax hike.
So that pack of $4.24 boros add 10 cents excise and at least 5 cents sales. Close to $4.60 a pack at the cheapest places. One ounce tin o smokeless will be 36 cents. Cigars a two ounce pack of 5 will be 72 cents.
This budget still has to go to the legislature. Who knows what they will do?
This will pick them up at least $100 million. RYO while you can. |

Nemo:
Wonder if the PA govt. will start policing the mails and collecting fines and back taxes on shipped RYO tobacco and materials like most states do on finished cigs now.
Noticed you're from NW PA. Maybe you're close enough to WV to get some relief at least temporarily.
The way it's going, I think we will all soon be buying our smoking materials from out-of-state or out-of-country importers.
Prohibition, Round 2, here we come. |

DC PA started going after sales through the mail almost two years ago on finihed cigs. RYO no excise tax yet for personel use. RYO are still subject to sale tax only.
West Virgina is to far from Erie. A lot of people are going to some NY native reservations.
Tobacco tax evasion is covered under 4 felonies, 4 misdameanors and 4 summary offenses. The worst felony is $15,000 and up to five years. Possession of more than a carton of non PA stamped cigs can get you $300 or 90 days. Transporting of more than 20 cartons of non stamped PA for resale. They may exercise seizures of vehicles. |

Nemo 31,
"RYO are still subject to sale tax only. "
Don't forget the MSA tax.
The prices have almost doubled in the last two to three years so you can
see where it's headed------better get that patch in the back yard started

| MSA: Thanks JC forgot PA requires anyone that sell tobacco products must buy a license and sell only from companies that agree to MSA. JC there are always other sources but we cannot talk about them. |

| Nemo went totally RYO today. I smoked Boro Lights until 4 months ago. Cost of Boro Lites today in my area anywhere from $4.33 on sale to $4.90 a pack counting sales tax. Cost of RYO per pack for me today 68 cents. The taste is good and the freshness made all the differance. Should have done this a long time ago. I will be in the experimantal stage for a while. I will be satisfied. Feeling real gooood! |
