| Hey sorry, I realize this is not a forum about cigarettes in general, but I can't find anywhere else to ask this. I see that there are two new kinds of Marlboro Menthols, those in the green/silver box and those in the blue/silver box. My question is, what is the difference between these two? I apologize for posting this here but I need to figure this out and would be eternally greatful for any kind of response or answer. Many thanks. |

| Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I used to smoke Marlboro Milds (the blue menthol box) and although there isn't a HUGE difference between those and the ones in the green box, the menthold taste was MUCH easier to handle in the blue rather than the green, hence the name Milds. The green is kinda like Kools and the blue is kinda like Newports. It's just preference of the menthol flavor. I personally don't care for menthols too much anymore, I'm on an Ultra Light kick right now and I don't feel nearly as crappy in the morning. Try both and see if you like them, but if you give your money to Marlboro remember you're funding the anti-tobacco groups. You can buy online or try generics, be wary of those as well. Look very carefully at the packing for the two major tobacco companies. Only Philip-Morris publicly takes the anti-smokers side, but giving money to either one will only ensure those annoying TRUTH commercials. |

Libby;
That is true, PM's website doesn't even have info about the cigs anymore, it's all full of anti-smoking rhetoric!
But I was intrigued by this question so I emailed Philip Morris and requested a definitive answer. |

| Thanks, I checked the PM site as well and got a good laugh out of it. I'm hoping they're still doing the 2-for-1 deal (both the milds and regs), but I doubt it. I remember liking the milds better anyway; thanks for the response. |

The PM website is just disgusting in my personal, biased opinion and they are not deserving of my hard-earned $3.00 a pack any longer, yet they did send me a nifty little lighter cover on my birthday a couple weeks ago. With all the money I've handed over to them, they should send me a new car for my birthday!!
The anti-smokers like to throw that at you whenever you argue with them. ( "PM's website even says ETS is harmful" ) But I looked up the other big one (the name has escaped me at this moment - sorry, long drunk weekend spent at a cabin) and they do NOT support the anti-smoking movement, BUT since they were part of the settlement, as long as they have a certain amount of the market share, they have to give money to Truth and other Nazi organizations.
Good luck in your search for a good menthol and a reputable cigarette company . . . REMEMBER: Check the Label for the big tabacco companies! |

I am not really a fan of menthols, but I actually have tried the new Marlboro's in the blue/silver box and the only difference I can tell between that and the old Marlboro menthols is the new ones have a shorter filter to them.
I usually smoke Reds or mediums for the most part |

| Philip Morris is a terrrible company. I use to smoke Marlboro Lights for years, but when I found out about them being anti's, I switched to Camel Lights. Their website is an antismoking site, but a pro tobacco site. It's really weird. They create a wonderful portrait of the American tobacco farmer, but they also say it's terrible to smoke the stuff. I know what they're trying to do; they're trying to get Americans to support the foundation of tobacco, then they're hoping that they'll appreciate smoking. This will take years though. They are doing this at the expense of current smokers, us. I really believe that RJ Reynolds is our friend. It's true they have to spend some money on anti-smoking campains, but they really do a lot for us. They have an extremely helpdful website that goes through all the smoking laws, regulations, and taxes in the entire country. This has been an extremely helpful tool for me in planning vacations and trips. RJ Reynolds is fighting for the smokers the right way. They tell us all the laws; then they give us information on who to harass to change them. I think their strategy is much better than that of PM. |

OK, I finally got a response from my Philip Morris email. This is what they wrote:
Quote: Thank you for contacting Philip Morris USA.
Please call our Consumer Affairs department at
1-800-343-0975, prompt 4, between the hours of 9 AM and 5 PM ET,
Monday-Friday, and we will be pleased to assist you.
We appreciate your interest in Philip Morris USA.

OK, so I called. They said there is no difference between the blue and green packs. They test marketed them in different cities to see if people were more apt to buy a certain color. Apparently there wasn't much of a difference in sales. But the final answer is the cigarettes are exactly the same.
Call them if you have any other questions - they were very fast (no hold wait), very nice, and very helpful. |

Don't mind the above post. I did a search on google to try and find the differance between the blue and green box. I clicked on this link and it brought me staight to this thread with a quote ready to reply. I thought that was strange so I thought I would post just to see if I could.
Hmm. That the first time I've ever seen a message board let a "guest" post. Maybe something for a admin. to take a look at?? |
