Pleaase help me deal with you and your type. I am not a troll - I'm looking for some good advice, because I have a real problem.

I live in NYC - it is illegal to smoke in bars, and restaurants, as you know.

Smoke bothers me to no end. When I'm at a bar, or restaurant, I'll see someone smoking, and I'll ask them politely to please put it out. (They look so pathetic - eyes darting around, holding the cigarette next to their ankle so no one will notice).

More often than not, they are RUDE!

Last night, I was out, and someone was smoking. So I politely ask him please put out their cigarette. I turn away, and resume my conversation. Next thing I know, he blows smoke IN MY FACE. The places was crowded, and it would have taken me 10 minutes to walk to a bouncer. So I had to deal with it.

I'm tired of dealing with it.

So, all you smokers. What should I do? Any advice would be appreciated.

There are already new bills being introduced to allow smoking in certains bars and/or certain areas of bars. Basically, until they make smoking legal again, there's nothing you can do. When it is legal, according to the new bill, it will only be in "separate, ventilated areas". So you should have no problem.

But in the meantime, it looks like you're starting to realize it was never a good idea to ban it in the first place ...

C'mon, now, surely there is someone out there who can give me better advice that this?

I just know it in my heart that all smokers don't have this "Go-to-hell-deal-with-it" attitude?

Thanks for your replies. Please show me that there are smokers who care about the feelings of others.

I guess I wasn't making myself clear, then. I wasn't trying to give you a "Go-to-hell-deal-with-it" attitude. I was trying to give you a "It's-your-own-damn-fault-a$$hole-so-deal-with-it" attitude.

What do you expect? This is a monster of your own creation. People like you are like little kids who go tell the principal to make the school bully stop beating them up, then are surpised to learn that just made the bully all the madder.

Smokers are coming back with a very pissed off attitude to the bars they were asked not to smoke in. They are disobeying the ban exactly the way you disregard the speed limit, without thinking twice.

Government cannot censor what is perceived as personal freedom in a free society. The law is considered absurd and therefore ignored.

Mr. BWilliams, your comments have been enlightening - I do agree with you - this is a situation we have created for ourselves.

But it's a great situation. If you capture a rabid mountain lion and put it in a cage, it will hiss at you every time you walk by. I'd rather be hissed at, than bitten.

It has been a pleasure communicating with you. You have confirmed every suspicion I've had about smokers.

You seem like an intelligent person whom I might want to meet for a beer some time. But then again, you'd probably blow smoke in my face, so you will remain an unmet friend.

I don't know what kind of attitude you expect to get from an enemy, cough_hack. You come in here and name yourself, "cough_hack", an obvious insult and disrespect towards smokers, you tell us how you are happy smoking is banned, and you ask why we don't like you.

Militant non-smokers are the enemy of smokers. How each individual deals with the enemy, however, is up to him or her. I never blew smoke in anyone's face (except a girl I wanted to sleep with, but you wouldn't know that signal) but I wouldn't stop any smoker from doing so.

You take away the rights and freedoms of American citizens and you ask for complacency, respect, and sheepish morality in return? You won't get it. You have become the enemy to not just smokers, but anyone who resists government control and censorship.

Hey cough_hack,

I'm glad to hear that people are still smoking in New York. I have to admit that the person who blew smoke in your face has more courage than I do. I haven't been in New York city since the smoking ban. I'm from New Jersey, and our cities are a lot more fun and crowded now. We have Hoboken, and Atlantic City, both wonderful smoking cities, and they will remain that way in the foreseeable future. I applaud that man for blowing smoke in your face. You deserved it. If there were more people like him, I'd go to New York for an evening sometime.

Dear BWilliams, I will always disagree with you, but you have been a worthy and thoughtful opponent. Thanks for sharing your side, and I hope everything works out for you.

Dear Tom - Please stay in Jersey. We in New York City have laws so people with your attitude don't spend time here.

Happy smoking!! I'm off to the bars and restaurants that smell nice (welll, most of the time)

I see, that was the idea of a smoking ban, to keep people with attitudes out. I guess in your mind, smokers are the only people who commit crimes. I don't mind the increase of girls in the NJ cities. It's great. Lots of hot girls hang out in Jersey to get away from a-holes like yourself. We have rights in New Jersey to keep you Nazis out and the hot girls in, so stay out Laughing
