I got this piece of paper at Quick Chek when I bought my back of cigarettes the other day. I called ... are you going to?
Quote:
Speak Out and Say NO to Cigarette Tax Increases!
Governor Corzine has proposed an increase in the state cigarette excise tax from $2.40 per pack to $2.75 per pack. This increase means that adult smokers in New Jersey could pay $27.50 in state excise taxes alone for a carton of cigarettes. If passed this will be the 4th increase in cigarette taxes in 5 years. Enough is Enough!
TAKE ACTION TODAY!
CALL 1-866-722-8669 OR 866-7-ACTNOW
You may want to tell your legislator:
* Stop targeting adult smokers with increased taxes and start finding
stable revenue solutions to support the budget!
* New Jersey's cigarette excise tax is already well beyond the national
average of $8.70 per carton.
* Increasing the state's cigarette tax will unfairly burden New Jersey's
adult smokers.

I called and left messages. I am looking to make my voice heard any possible way that I can. We as smokers are being abused and taken advantage of, and I am not going take it! Hopefully others will follow as well!!! |

| Strike back! Roll your own or buy out of state. Delaware's next doo and has reasonable prices. |

Strike back and buy elsewhere- if you can. I live in MA and have been buying cartons in NH for years - cash only [No more charge cards for these transactions]
At $1.51 tax per carton that MA taxes, I left and they have lost - say a carton a week - $785.20 from my pocket. I'd rather give NH $416 at $8 a carton.
If gas goes to $4 a gallon or more- it would still be worth it for just the principle. |

Gilster:
That's how we can hurt them. An example: Four years ago, Maryland passed a huge increase in cig taxes under the guise of funding the Thornton Amendment for iimproving state schools.
Guess what still isn't funded yet? |
